I’ve been seeing a lot of conversations lately about this “flat” or “blah” feeling some people are having on TZ and RT, and I just wanted to talk about it for a minute because I feel like some people are getting close to just quitting.
Some people are calling it anhedonia, but I don’t really think that’s what this is. True anhedonia is more constant and affects everything, and it usually doesn’t just improve on its own.
What a lot of people are feeling here is different… and in most cases, temporary.
What’s happening is your brain’s reward system is being dialed down a bit. That’s the same reason the food noise gets quieter. But for some people, that can spill over a little and you might feel less motivated, less excited, or just kind of “flat.”
And here’s the part I think a lot of people are missing…
A lot of times it’s not just that one thing.
It’s a combination of:
not eating enough
not getting enough protein
poor sleep
high stress
not moving enough or getting sunlight
When all of that stacks together, yeah… you can start to feel off.
Also, think about this — a lot of us were used to constant dopamine hits from food, sugar, whatever it was. When that suddenly gets pulled back, your brain can kind of dip for a bit before it balances back out.
On top of that, your body is adjusting in other ways too. Cutting out a lot of junk, moving more, things shifting… that can make you feel a little off for a minute as well.
But here’s the important part…
This is not permanent.
Your system does adjust.
Some people are just more sensitive to it than others, and d o s e can play a role too. Higher isn’t always better if you’re feeling like this.
So before you assume something’s wrong, ask yourself:
are you actually eating enough?
are you getting your protein in?
how’s your sleep?
are you getting up and moving at all?
Because all of that matters more than people think.
If you’re feeling this way, don’t panic. Just support your body and give it a little time to catch up.
It does level out.
